What is The New Homesteader’s Almanac?
The New Homesteader’s Almanac is designed to give you an online resource of information for your home, garden, pasture, and barn.
We are working on a yearly calendar of average first and last dates of frost and the planting windows for different crops, along with other useful information. The calendar is a work in progress and will contain more information as time allows.
This website is under construction, so please be patient while we work on all the great features for you!
What The New Homesteader’s Almanac Is Not…
This website is not intended to take the place of The Old Farmer’s Almanac. We will not be delving into astrological signs and such information as ‘the best day to get a haircut’…If you would like that information, please refer to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. Planting by moon phase is given a nod in our side bar with a moon calendar produced in France. We don’t have control over that information…other than to choose English for the language, and delete the moon calendar if we don’t like it.
The New Homesteader’s Almanac is not an annual publication…
We understand the irony of calling an online publication an almanac…which is typically an annual publication with a forecast of the weather, moon phases, and the like. However, almanacs also traditionally contain plenty of other general interest information.
Here is an online definition of Almanac:
noun: almanac, plural noun: almanacs
an annual calendar containing important dates and statistical information such as astronomical data and tide tables
yearbook, calendar, register, annual, manual, … more
a handbook, typically published annually, containing information of general interest or on a sport or pastime
Our calendar will be the annual portion of this website…we hope you find this information useful!
