DIY Body Spray Ingredients

Make Your Own Custom Blend DIY Body Spray

Since you are creating your body spray from basic ingredients, you can choose exactly what you like! Use essential oils that have a floral, herbal, or citrus scent. This is a purely personal preference. If you already have a variety of essential oils, you may create several different blends to fit your needs.

Floral Scents

Floral essential oils may be overpowering in perfumes and artificial concoctions. However, when creating your own body spray you control the intensity of floral notes. Try the following essential oils for a more feminine scent:

  • Rose
  • Clary sage
  • Lavender
  • Geranium
  • Jasmine
  • Myrtle
  • Chamomile

Herbal Scents

Essential oils with a strong herbal note may be blended with floral and citrus scents according to your preference. For a more masculine body spray, consider a blend of these herbal scents. Try the following essential oils for an herbal body spray:

  • Cedarwood
  • Cypress
  • Black pepper
  • Balsam fir
  • Coriander
  • Eucalyptus
  • Frankincense
  • Rosemary
  • Oregano
  • Bergamont
  • Sandalwood

Citrus Scents

Citrus essential oils blend well with either the floral or herbal scents. For an invigorating body spray with a clean, fresh aroma, try the following essential oils:

  • Grapefruit
  • Lemon
  • Sweet Orange
  • Lemongrass
  • Lemon balm
  • Lime
  • Tangarine
cinnamon

Scents to Use Sparingly:

Mint essential oils work well with most other scents, but be careful about spraying on sensitive skin. Many of the essential oils derived from spice can be overwhelming and should be used a bit more sparingly. Pachuouli is another scent that can be overpowering. Use these essential oils in smaller amounts until you are familiar with how well you like them.

  • Cinnamon
  • Clove Bud
  • Peppermint
  • Spearmint
  • Patchouli

How to Make Your Own Body Spray

To create your custom body spray, you’ll need the essential oils of your choice, witch hazel, and a spray bottle for applying. Here is the simple recipe to create your own all natural body spray…

DIY Body Spray

Make your own body spray from two or three simple ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup witch hazel
  • 20-30 drops essential oil
  • 10 drops vegetable glycerin (optional) increases longetivity of scent

Instructions

  • Pour witch hazel into a spray bottle and add 20 to 30 drops of essential oil to the bottle. Add 10 drops of vegetable glycerin, if desired. Shake before using.

Notes

Test on a small area to check for skin sensitivities before using over a large area of the body. Do not get in eyes or use on sensitive areas of the body.
Spritz body spray lightly over skin for a fresh scent after a workout, gardening, or a long day at work to freshen up, help relax, or lift your mood.

Choosing a Bottle for Your DIY Body Spray

Use a clean spray bottle that delivers a fine mist for best results when using your DIY body spray. The bottle shown above is made with metal that doesn’t react to the ingredients. If possible, use metal, glass, or BPA free plastic bottles that may be recycled. If re-purposing another bottle, be sure to clean it thoroughly before filling.

Customize Your Body Spray and Reduce Toxic Chemical Exposure

You may find that this body spray is strong enough to use in place of deodorant. However, even if it isn’t strong enough for that, it makes a wonderful body spray for freshening up and applying a bit of natural scent. It isn’t overwhelming like many perfumes and shouldn’t trigger sensitivities in those around you.

Many of the bath and body products we use are laden with chemicals. Don’t expose your skin and lungs to toxic chemicals. Instead, try making your own custom bath and body products with all natural ingredients!
